Hello friends, welcome to Techsesh Sagar. Seventy years ago we were born as an independent nation, free from the rules of British government, as Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru has said and I quote that ” AT THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom”. At that time we have crossed one hurdle of being a free nation but there were many more difficulties, we had to keep up with the world, we have to be technically advance ourselves to compete with other free countries. In the words of Mr. JL Nehru, “the question of independence and protection from foreign aggression both political and economic has also to be considered. In this context, I do not think it is possible for India to be really independent unless she is a technically advanced country, and I am not thinking for the moment in terms of just armies, but rather of scientific growth.” So now we will discuss some of the technologies that helped India to develop as an independent nation.
PARAM is the first super computer of India. It was developed by centre for development of advance computing in PUNE. The story behind the making of PARAM is also quite amazing, India needed a supercomputer for developments in the Nuclear field, so we persuaded CRAY INC.(American supercomputer manufacturer) for supercomputer but the cost of it was high and eventually they denied for giving us a supercomputer. So to achieve self-sufficiency we started our own project under the leadership of Vijay Bhatkar. It took three years to complete the project and it was displayed in the 1990 ZURICH Super Computer Show. This system surpassed all other system and was placed second after USA. The final effort of the result was PARAM 8000 which was installed in 1991 and the latest version of it is PARAM ISHAN.
INDIAN SPACE AND RESEARCH ORGANISATION was founded in 1969 which superseded INCOSPAR which was founded by technically inclined prime minister Mr. J L Nehru in 1962. It was formed under the guidance of one of the greatest mind of India Mr. V Sarabhai. The main motto of ISRO is “space technology in the service of humankind“. The first satellite which was launched with the help of soviet union was ARYABHATT in 1975, and from there onwards, ISRO continued to create new benchmarks in Indian space explorations. There was the time when we have to plead in front of other nations to launch our satellites and now on 15th February 2017 we have launched 104 satellites with the help of Indian made PSLV-C37, this shows how well we have performed in this area. MANGALYAAN has created history in world space exploration as the cheapest mars orbiter, this made INDIA a pioneer in cost-efficient space exploration. The significant growth from ARYABHATT to MANGALYAAN shows our persistence and hard work in the field of technology.
During 1940’s to 1970’s FAMINES in India were frequent, there was faulty distribution of food and people were not getting paid according to their labour, MALNUTRITION and STARVATION was one of the biggest threats for the country. There was a lack of self-sufficiency and low productivity and the problem was so big that we have to import food grains. So to overcome this problem one of the greatest scientist of India Mr. M S SWAMINATHAN and Mr. G S KALKAT introduced HIGH YEILDING VARIETY seeds and also introduced modern methods like fertilizers, tractors, pesticides and irrigation facilities in the agricultural system. This helped in an enormous growth in productivity and now we do not have to beg to other countries for food. They also introduced the concept of HYBRID RICE which was at that time only present in CHINA , was now available to in India and this has caused an increase in production of rice (approximately 30%).
These technological advancements helped India to develop as an INDEPENDENT COUNTRY.
